Hi. Our updates are taking almost one second each. Does this sound normal? How can we speed this up?

What's your sql? What's the row count of your table? An update sql need to do full-table search if there's no suitable index expression.

Remarkable what a difference using PreparedStatement makes. MUCH faster. Problem solved. Thank you.
