Column type in Excel changed from LONGVARCHAR to VARCHAR

HXTT Excel 3.0.16 recognizes text fields in Excel as LONGVARCHAR. The newer version, 4.0.031 regognizes it as VARCHAR. Why did this change?
We now have the same problem as reported here earlier: http://www.hxtt.com/support_view_issue.jsp?product=excel&id=1245769850

Let me clarify. For the issue I linked, the detection of text (not date) fields was changed from VARCHAR to LONGVARCHAR. This is good.
In a recent version, it was changed back from LONGVARCHAR to VARCHAR. This is not good.

Then when size>255, it will show LONGVARCHAR.
<255, it showes VARCHAR
